Cody Rhodes To Pay Special Tribute To Indy Run At WrestleMania 39

Cody Rhodes

Cody Rhodes will look back on his wrestling past when he takes to the ring for the biggest match of his career in the main event of WrestleMania 39.

Following his exit from WWE in 2016, The American Nightmare famously made a list and went the length and breadth of the US and around the world, ticking off names and making the independent scene his own.

Speaking on HOT 97 Cody Rhodes noted that he wants to pay homage to his run on the indys when he graces The Grandest Stage of Them All:

“Small spoiler I guess, I was trying to come up with this idea for a weight belt for a very specific PLE or pay-per-view, whatever you wanna call it where I wrote everybody independent promotion I worked at on it, because that was the most important thing I did was this connection with these fans and getting to know them and grassroots and that became really my bread and butter.”

Cody Rhodes then later confirmed to Robbie Fox on My Mom’s Basement that the “very specific PLE” in question is WrestleMania 39.

During his time away from WWE and before Rhodes was at the forefront of AEW, The American Nightmare competed for a slew of promotions including Ring of Honor, New Japan Pro Wrestling, AAA, NWA, CWE, RevPro, HIW, A1 Wrestling, NEW, AAW, WrestleCircus, House of Hardcore, HOG, Discovery Wrestling, as well as a whole host of others.
