Cody Rhodes Facing Huge Ladder Match For WWE Title

Cody Rhodes will get his chance to once again be the “Undisputed” WWE Champion at the Royal Rumble in a huge ladder match.

At Saturday Night’s Main Event, Cody Rhodes defeated Kevin Owens to hang on to his WWE Championship, but it did not come without controversy. Rhodes walked into the nostalgia-laced show with the famous Winged Eagle title belt for one night only, but it was Kevin Owens who left with that gold.

Kevin Owens had Rhodes pinned during the match but the referee had been taken out meaning that nobody was there to count the pinfall and the match continued. After Rhodes had turned things around and won, Kevin Owens sent Rhodes to the hospital with the package piledriver.

Cody Rhodes & Kevin Owens Set For Ladder Match

Now on the 27th of December edition of SmackDown, both Cody Rhodes and Kevin Owens pleaded with Nick Aldis to get each other one more time. Given what happened during their last match, Owens wanted a match where the referee would not prove pivotal with Rhodes then suggesting they face each other in a ladder match.

Aldis eventually agreed to make the match for the Royal Rumble with both Rhodes’ WWE Championship belt and Kevin Owens’ Winged Eagle title hanging above the ring.
