Cody Rhodes Made Interesting Piece Of History At WWE WrestleMania 40
Cody Rhodes continues to make history.
At WrestleMania 40, Cody Rhodes defeated Roman Reigns on night two to become the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion.
Since returning to WWE in 2022, Rhodes has been open about his desire to win the WWE Title — a championship his famous father never held. Interestingly, the American Nightmare also made a different piece of history when he captured the gold.
Dave Meltzer noted in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, that Rhodes became the first man to hold the WWE, NWA, and ROH World Titles.
From an historical standpoint, Rhodes became the first person to hold the WWE, NWA and ROH titles.
While his NWA title is obviously far less meaningful historically than an NWA title prior to 1994, the only NWA and WWE champions in history were Rhodes, Ric Flair, Buddy Rogers and A.J. Styles, the latter of whom would be the only WWE, IWGP and NWA champion combination
Cody Rhodes Linked With Huge Match At WrestleMania 41
While WrestleMania 40 weekend is barely over, it’s already been reported that Cody Rhodes could face The Rock at WrestleMania 41.
After their interaction on Raw, there’s a belief that The Rock wants to face Rhodes in 2025 — instead of wrestling Roman Reigns as he had originally planned. The pair clashed repeatedly during the run-up to WrestleMania, and Rock pinned Rhodes on night one.
According to the report, Rock would “prefer to work with Rhodes in the main event of next year’s Mania, and as we’ve seen, he is generally going to get what he wants.”
