Cody Rhodes To Headline Major WWE Show In Mexico

Cody Rhodes is integral to WWE’s plans in Mexico.

Back in April, it was reported that WWE was planning to hold an event in Mexico as it continues its international expansion. Things then took a surprise twist when the company announced it had acquired famous Mexican promotion AAA during WrestleMania weekend.

This has led to a crossover between WWE and AAA already, with more talent switches expected in the coming weeks and months.

In an update in early May, it was claimed that WWE will run a “SuperShow” in Mexico, potentially linked to a series of smaller events, with a date and location yet to be confirmed.

Cody Rhodes Will Headline WWE Event In Mexico

Writing in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer confirmed reports that WWE is planning a big event in Mexico. In addition, he noted that Cody Rhodes will be in the headline bout whenever that event takes place.

WWE does have plans for a major event in Mexico. Multiple sources have confirmed this and the likelihood it would be announced soon…

The only thing we were told is that right now there is a plan for a major show that would be headlined by Rhodes. WWE can’t make the money for a PPV and the costs of doing TV there don’t make sense since the Mexican government nor cities in Mexico aren’t going to pay money to bring WWE in.

But they still may do something, or perhaps a series of things, because they are not hot in competition.

The American Nightmare has been absent from WWE television since losing to John Cena at WrestleMania 41. However, it seems he’ll be back in business very soon.

Cody Rhodes is currently listed on the ticketing page for the May 23 edition of SmackDown, which appears to hint that he will be there. In addition, in a short interview clip promoting the show, Tiffany Stratton mentioned that Rhodes would be there.

This is no guarantee that Rhodes will appear, but for several weeks, it’s been reported that he’ll be back for Money In The Bank on June 7.
