Cody Rhodes Grateful For WWE Star’s Help During Severe Illness

There are times when even Cody Rhodes needs a helping hand.

Sometimes, life on the road doesn’t go exactly to plan. But even when that happens, the show must go on.

Over the course of his career, Cody Rhodes has always prided himself on doing whatever it takes to get into the ring or make scheduled appearances. While an incident during a house show loop might not compare to wrestling in Hell In A Cell with a torn pec, there was one occasion when food poisoning almost took Rhodes out of the game.

During the latest episode of his What Do You Wanna Talk About podcast with Damian Priest, Rhodes recalled having to wrestle Priest in a series of Cage Matches while battling serious food poisoning.

The American Nightmare recalled how bad he was feeling before detailing how he broke the news to Priest that he wasn’t going to be in for a fun night.

“On the Christmas loop, was wrestling you in steel cages. And the night in Boston… I was on the bus, nearly dead. I had what I thought was maybe a stomach bug. It ended up just being food poisoning, but I thought we’re gonna need to go to the hospital… I’m shivering. Temperatures just a blazing… It’s everything you could think of. It’s the worst it’s ever been.

I came and I told you, I said, ‘Hey, I’m a little sick, so just, you know, be mindful. Maybe don’t kick me in the stomach,’ which the first thing all wrestlers would do is, like, kick a guy in the stomach,” Rhodes recounted.

And then you saw me go to a trash can next to you, where I [threw up] about 30 pounds of fluid right there… I remember you looking at me and going, ‘Oh…’”

Rhodes went on to credit Priest with looking after him and being so professional.

“We wrestled, and it continued for three nights after that… and you were I was like a little baby bird, and you took care of me. I could not have asked for a more professional dance partner in that moment… I wanted to thank you for it.”

Priest responded that in his eyes, Rhodes was “responsible for the house,” so it was important to look after him.

Look, that’s one of those. It’s like, ‘Man Cody’s responsible for the house. We got to do our part.’… I was like, ‘okay, like, let me make this really easy for him.’… We just both knew what we had to do, and we did it.”

Cody Rhodes And Seth Rollins Produce WWE Event

During the same conversation, Cody Rhodes revealed that he and Seth Rollins produced an entire WWE event with no prior warning.

The star recalled commercial flights being grounded due to a snowstorm, so he stepped up and chartered a private jet from Nebraska to El Paso to make sure talent “made it to the next town.” However, there were no producers on the flight, and no producers flying into El Paso from elsewhere. As a result, Rhodes and Rollins produced the show themselves.

Rhodes declined to reveal when the show took place.
