Eric Bischoff Talks Differences Between Dusty & Cody Rhodes

As Cody Rhodes prepares for the biggest match of his career as a pro wrestler at WrestleMania 39, Eric Bischoff talked about his father Dusty and Cody.

The main event of WrestleMania 39 will see WWE Royal Rumble winner Cody Rhodes challenging the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns on the grandest stage of them all at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.

Ever since he started in pro wrestling about 17 years ago, Cody has had to follow the legendary career of his father, the WWE Hall of Famer Dusty Rhodes and his future WWE Hall of Fame brother Dustin “Goldust” Rhodes. It wasn’t easy for Cody, but he has persevered and is going to try to win the WWE Championship that his father and brother never won.

Eric Bischoff knew Dusty Rhodes from when they worked together in WCW when Eric was running the company while Dusty was sometimes wrestling, but mostly working as an announcer and helping out the company.

On a recent episode of Eric Bischoff’s 83 Weeks on AdfreeShows.com called “Ask Eric Anything,” the WWE Hall of Famer explained how Dusty and Cody Rhodes were different.

“Dusty was special. Cody is also special, but in a much different way. Dusty was every guy. Everybody could relate to Dusty. ‘There for the grace of God go I, whether you said that out loud to yourself or you just kind of felt it in the marrow of your bones. When you saw Dusty, deep down, there for the grace of God go I. That could be me.’ That’s how much people related to Dusty for so many reasons, promos number one, who he was, which were a reflection of what his promos were. The way he carried himself. There for the grace of God go I.”

“I don’t think Cody has that same very, very, special thing. Cody is unattainable. He looks perfect. He’s impeccable. He’s class. He’s everything most of us will never be (he laughs).”

What Bischoff was saying clearly wasn’t a dig at Cody Rhodes. It was just a way of explaining how Dusty was very relatable while Cody might not be as relatable in the same way, but as Eric said, they are both special.
