What Cody Rhodes And Drew McIntyre Reportedly Pitched For WWE Title Match
The WWE Champion Cody Rhodes and his Wrestlepalooza Drew McIntyre had an idea for their championship match, but it wasn’t used.
In the main event of the first-ever WWE Wrestlepalooza PLE, Cody Rhodes defeated Drew McIntyre with the Cross Rhodes to retain the Undisputed WWE Championship.
During the match, McIntyre wanted to hit Rhodes with a Claymore Kick through the bottom of the commentary table like he had done several weeks earlier, but the referee stopped him, and Rhodes was able to recover and find a way to win the match.
According to Bodyslam.net’s Patreon page, sources claim that Rhodes and McIntyre pitched Randy Orton, which resulted in Rhodes losing the Undisputed WWE Championship by accident. That would have put the WWE Title on McIntyre, while Rhodes would likely win back the WWE Title, and then Orton would turn on Rhodes at that point to set up a Rhodes-Orton feud.
Instead of the proposed finish that Rhodes and McIntyre reportedly pitched, WWE went with Rhodes retaining his title by pinfall. However, McIntyre could still complain about it because that’s what heels do.
Drew McIntyre Will Likely Have To Wait For Another Shot At Cody Rhodes
The next WWE PLE is the Crown Jewel event in Perth, Australia, on October 11th, which is less than three weeks away.
WWE CCO Triple H has announced immediately after Wrestlepalooza that the World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins will face the Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes in a match for the Crown Jewel Championship, similar to last year when Rhodes beat Gunther.
Since Cody Rhodes’ next PLE match has already been announced, it is unlikely that McIntyre will get his WWE Title rematch before that, unless WWE decides to put it on SmackDown or Raw.
Cody Rhodes is heading to WWE Monday Night Raw in Evansville, IN, to begin the build to his Crown Jewel match against Rollins, who is regularly on Raw.
