Cody Rhodes Dismisses Theory About Storyline With The Rock

The Rock Cody Rhodes WWE

Cody Rhodes has opened up about his storyline with The Rock.

In the main event of WrestleMania 40 Sunday, Cody Rhodes finally defeated Roman Reigns to win the Undisputed WWE Championship. However, it’s no secret that the match almost didn’t happen.

Following The Rock’s return to WWE, on a now infamous episode of SmackDown in February, Rhodes said he would step aside to let The Great One to face Reigns. But after fans rejected the twist, The Rock turned heel, and Rhodes was restored to the main event for his match with the Tribal Chief.

During this period there were claims Rhodes wouldn’t have a problem with moving aside to let The Rock take his main event spot given the size of the match on the line. Despite these theories, Rhodes says he would have been anything but cool on missing out on the WrestleMania main event.

While appearing on The Pivot podcast, Rhodes said he wasn’t happy to be moved out of the way for The Rock, and he’s glad the Hollywood star knew it.

“Where we would butt heads is in the idea that you could just come back in the midst of a story that was taking place, and just because you’re The Rock, you can step into the starting lineup and take WrestleMania for yourself. A lot of people said, ‘He’s The Rock. He can do whatever he wants.’

I even saw a podcast with two wrestling heads talking, and they said, ‘I’m sure Cody is fine stepping aside for WrestleMania and doing it later in the year.’ In my mind, I’m thinking, ‘That’s insane.’ That’s the Super Bowl of what we do. To get to Sunday, the last day of WrestleMania, the last match, it’s our literal Super Bowl.

The idea that somebody thought I would be cool with it. They don’t know me. That’s nonsense. I worked my whole life for this. Rock should know I wouldn’t be cool with it. Maybe that’s an understanding that him and I have. He found out, I’m not cool with it. That’s a good thing.

You know who wasn’t cool with The Rock? Steve Austin. They made magic together. They rubbed together so much it created diamonds. I do have a lot of respect for him.”

Cody Rhodes Still At War With The Bloodline

Despite getting the better of Reigns at WrestleMania, the American Nightmare is still batting The Bloodline — or at least the latest iteration. After being broken and beaten by Jacob Fatu, it was announced Cody Rhodes, Randy Orton, and Kevin Owens would team up to face the dominant faction at Money In The Bank.

It’s been reported The Bloodline team will be made up of Tama Tonga, Tonga Loa, and Solo Sikoa.
