Cody Rhodes has become a bonafide WWE main event performer this year, which has led to Bully Ray praising how it has happened.

The year started off well for Cody Rhodes as the winner of the 2023 Royal Rumble in January. That led to Cody headlining the second night of WrestleMania 39 when he challenged Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship.

Cody didn’t leave WrestleMania 39 as the new champion because of The Bloodline helping Reigns, but you could certainly argue that Cody became a bigger star after that night.

In the four months that followed WrestleMania, Cody had a lengthy feud with Brock Lesnar that saw them wrestle three times with a final match taking place at SummerSlam.

That match between Cody and Lesnar at SummerSlam was praised heavily for being an exciting match that told an interesting story. Lesnar dominated much of the match, but Cody wouldn’t quit and eventually came back to win clean. After the match, Lesnar shook Cody’s hand, hugged him, and raised Cody’s hand in what was reportedly an unplanned gesture by Lesnar, who wanted to put over the younger star in a big way.

When watching WWE television these days, it’s obvious that Cody has a strong connection with the audience whether it’s the kids wanting his leather belt or the adults wanting to see Cody live his dream of becoming WWE Champion some day.

Bully Ray believes Cody Rhodes is on the right track as a WWE top guy

Recently on Busted Open Radio, co-host Bully Ray, who is also a WWE & TNA/Impact Hall of Famer, spoke about Cody while suggesting a move to Smackdown.

“Couple of new faces, couple of new rivalries over there on ‘SmackDown. And now time to get him in line with Roman Reigns for the inevitable showdown at WrestleMania 40 in Philadelphia. I want to see Cody on ‘SmackDown.’ I don’t know what’s left for him on ‘Raw.'”

Bully Ray continued speaking about the special connection that Cody Rhodes has been building with WWE fans.

“How have I been explaining Cody’s build to everyone on this show? Fan by fan, brick by brick. When you see this video, this will be just another example of all of the other great examples out there with Cody involved.”

“This is not Cody giving away his weight belt. This was a kid who was in the third row whose mother or father is holding him up, and the kid is so starstruck to see him, to see Cody standing in front of him. Then Cody says something or they make eye contact, whatever it is, and the kid just starts crying and says, ‘I love you, Cody.’ That’s Jedi-level, lighting from the fingertips, babyface power.”

“Cody is making mom and dad look like a hero. Because Cody is resonating with the kids, and the kids are asking mom and dad to go to ‘Raw.’ Now mom and dad are taking the kid to ‘Raw.’ Now the kid gets to interact with Cody, thus making mom and dad the hero. Now mom and dad are as big of a fan of Cody as the kid is.”

Up next for Cody Rhodes is the September 18th episode of Raw where he’ll face Dominik Mysterio in singles action.
