Cody Rhodes Had Bizarre Encounter With Mike Tyson In AEW
Cody Rhodes got to have a unique backstage experience with boxing legend Mike Tyson.
At the second AEW Double or Nothing pay-per-view in May 2020, Cody Rhodes defeated Lance Archer to become the first TNT Champion in company history. This was at a time when no fans were at the show due to the COVID-19 pandemic, so AEW did interesting things like bring in boxing legend and WWE Hall of Famer Mike Tyson.
Mike Tyson’s role at that Double or Nothing PPV was to present the TNT Champion with the title. After the match, a shirtless Tyson presented Cody with the TNT Title.
During a recent episode of the 2 Bears 1 Cave podcast, Cody Rhodes recalled how Mike Tyson wanted Cody to put oil on him and Cody did it for the boxing legend.
“He just looked at me and asked, ‘Do I need oil?’
It was one of those moments where I thought, ‘This is Mike Tyson, a guy I admire so much—I need this relationship to go well.’ So, I was thinking to myself, ‘Does he actually believe he needs oil?’ I said, ‘Yeah, sure, sure.’
Then he took his shirt off. Now, mind you, Mike didn’t even need to take his shirt off for this. He’s standing there, no belt on his jeans, shirtless, and looking at me. This is one of the greatest fighters of all time, someone I truly respect, and he hands me the bottle and says, ‘You do it.’
He put a little on his hands and rubbed some on his chest, but then he turned around. So, I oiled him up. He looked great, honestly. I’ve oiled up other wrestlers before, so it wasn’t the strangest thing.
The weirdest part was what happened next. Right after that, he just threw his shirt right back on over it. I thought, ‘That’s not the point. Are you prepping to rip the shirt off or something?’ But he wasn’t doing anything like that that night.”
Cody Rhodes Could Face John Cena At WrestleMania 41
As the WWE Champion for the past eight months, Cody Rhodes has taken on all comers and been the definition of a fighting champion. Now that we are in a new year, there are plenty of rumors about what could happen at WrestleMania 41.
It has been reported that Cody Rhodes is likely going to face John Cena at WrestleMania 41 with Cena attempting to get his record-breaking 17th WWE World Title.
However, there is a contingency plan that could lead to Cody facing The Rock while Cena would then face off against Gunther at WrestleMania 41. As always, plans can change, especially during WrestleMania season.
