Cody Rhodes has discussed his feelings surrounding current AEW star Paul Wight used a rubber chicken to teach him a lesson.

‘The American Nightmare’ Cody Rhodes recalled both what happened in the ring and in a backstage discussion with the former Big Show, surrounding the match the pair had together for the Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania 28.

Speaking to WWE Hall of Famer Stone Cold Steve Austin on his Broken Skull Sessions, Cody Rhodes spoke of how although he was looking to have a more gritty style in the ring, Paul Wight helped him realise that having a less serious element to his game was also important when it came to getting a reaction from the crowd.

That night, he [Big Show] found a rubber chicken in the crowd and beat me half to death with that rubber chicken, and the crowd loved it. I, in one night, kind of wrapped my head around, ‘Yeah, this is part of the process of getting over.’ This was a very fun time to experiment.

I told him in the locker room, I said, ‘I wanna do a little more. I wanna get a little gritty.’ I don’t even know what I was saying at the time. ‘I just don’t think haha is gonna help me.’ I remember he just kinda smacked his legs, got up, he goes, ‘Well, then go get over,’ and walked out. I thought, ‘Ah, he’s right.’

On the 9th May 2022 edition of Monday Night Raw, Cody Rhodes competed in his first WWE United States Championship match since April 2015 when he took on Austin Theory. Although Rhodes picked up the win by disqualification after interference from Seth Rollins, this meant Theory left with the gold.
