Cody Rhodes Banned From UFC Dream

Cody Rhodes

Cody Rhodes wasn’t allowed to pursue a UFC fight.

Ever since WWE merged with UFC under the TKO Group banner, fans have been excited at the possibility of more MMA stars following in the footsteps of Rhonda Rousey and Brock Lesnar by stepping into a wrestling ring.

Of course, the talent exchanges could also go the other way, with top WWE stars heading for the octagon instead. In a recent interview with Marc Raimondi of ESPN, Cody Rhodes admitted he was curious to see how pro wrestlers would fare if they made that jump.

“What would be funny to me is if anyone could crossover from here. We have legitimately very tough guys like Bobby Lashley. I’m always very curious to see how one of us would do. I know in the past it’s not always worked out for everybody, but I am curious to see who is the first to take that jump.”

The American Nightmare revealed that he had ambitions to do one MMA fight himself, but his wife Brandi quickly made it clear she wouldn’t allow it.

“I actually told my wife. I told my wife I wanted to do one fight. I told her this two years ago. I think I was looking for some sort of massive financial windfall, I don’t know what it was, but I told her I wanted to do one fight and she absolutely let me know that would not be happening. Unless you convince her, it’s not going to happen. Maybe it’s for the best.”

If it were to happen though, Rhodes joked he would want the worst opponent Dana White could find.

“Give me the worst guy possible. Give me a freebie upfront, for sure.”

Cody Rhodes Not Likely To Finish The Story At WrestleMania 40

According to a recent report from Sports Illustrated, Cody Rhodes will not face Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 40, leaving his story unfinished for another year. Instead, the star is said to be gearing up for a marquee match against CM Punk after the pair butted heads on the January 22nd edition of Raw.

The SI report has not been well received by WWE, and seemingly those plans aren’t “set in stone.” The Road to WrestleMania is likely to be much clearer following the Royal Rumble on January 27th.
