Cody Rhodes Makes Strange Admission About John Cena Clash
Cody Rhodes has looked back on his rivalry with John Cena.
At WrestleMania 41, John Cena beat Cody Rhodes to become the Undisputed WWE Champion, and crucially, World Champion for the record 17th time.
The match came on the heels of Cena’s heel turn at Elimination Chamber, and was roundly criticised for its plodding pace and run-in by Travis Scott. However, just days after Cena switched back to being a babyface, the pair met again at SummerSlam, this time, with Rhodes taking the win.
During an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, Rhodes looked back at those matches with Cena at WrestleMania and SummerSlam. He said that SummerSlam was better for their “lack of a match” at WrestleMania, adding that he sees them as all part of the same fight.
“It’s MetLife, what a good time. I hate saying this, but part of the beauty of how great that match is was the lack of a match that really took place at WrestleMania in a sense. Sometimes the long game is the game. It’s like going on last, it’s a hard spot occasionally, but the bigger picture — I treat them as the same match and then we just got to use all the bells and whistles.”
In the same interview, Cody Rhodes explained the importance of his match on SmackDown alongside Randy Orton. During the conversation, he confirmed the pair to the Mega Powers.
John Cena’s Retirement Match Confirmed
As Cody Rhodes prepares to face Seth Rollins at Crown Jewel, a major announcement has been made regarding Cena’s impending retirement.
In recent days, it’s been announced that John Cena will officially retire at Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13. The match will take place at the Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C.
But up next for Cena, who has a very limited number of dates remaining, is a date with AJ Styles at Crown Jewel in Australia. The match was made on social media after both Cena and Styles called out Triple H. In reality, the clash had been planned for some time, but was kept off television due to Cena’s schedule.
