Cody Rhodes Addresses Backstage Battle For Top Spot With Roman Reigns
Cody Rhodes is enjoying leading the charge.
Since returning to WWE in 2022, Cody Rhodes has established himself as the biggest star in the company. While Rhodes has been firing on all cylinders the company is also enjoying a boom period far beyond anything experienced in decades.
Rhodes’ status as top man was cemented at WrestleMania 40 with his win over Roman Reigns. And since taking possession of the Undisputed WWE Championship his star has only grown.
However, after a lengthy hiatus, Reigns is now back on SmackDown and more popular than ever.
Cody Rhodes Loves The Challenge
With Triple H flying back to the United States to be with his eldest daughter as she moves to college, Cody Rhodes was first up at the Bash In Berlin post-show. During his portion of the press conference, Rhodes was asked about his position on the card now that Roman Reigns is back in the fold.
The American Nightmare acknowledged the challenge involved in being WWE’s top man, but it’s not one he’s shying away from.
“I think if I’m speaking honestly, they’re not insecurities and they’re not concerns, but I’d be naive to not acknowledge the challenge.
I love this, and maybe one of the things – I had a lifetime of experience to get ready for this – that’s the biggest challenge in front of me in terms of what’s the new task for me?
The idea of being a poster boy at all – my gosh, that’s an amazing feeling. That’s special. It will end at some point. But I will certainly put up every bit of a fight. And it’s not just the OTC, it’s not just Roman Reigns. This is John Cena’s farewell run.
I am up there in very rare air with special characters. People like CM Punk. The way I would put it – it’s a great problem to have for WWE. And I think both the man you mentioned and myself, we like that.
We have pitted ourselves against each other not just at WrestleMania in the main event, but in every aspect behind the scenes too. And not in a dishonest way – in an honest way. Better man’s gonna win. And that’s a good problem to have.”
At Bash In Berlin, Cody Rhodes retained his Undisputed WWE Title with a win over Kevin Owens.
