CM Punk’s Match At Forbidden Door Is Off
CM Punk had originally been scheduled to be a part of Forbidden Door following his return to AEW but now it seems his planned match for the event has been cancelled.
Fightful Select has now reported that the planned bout between KENTA and CM Punk is no longer happening. KENTA is believed to have told NJPW and AEW that he is not facing Punk at Forbidden Door with AEW said to be considering who could face Punk at the show or if he’ll be competing on it at all.
Sources at NJPW had confirmed that KENTA and CM Punk had been planned and no reason was given for the change of direction. A social media message from KENTA reading “Kenta vs Punk is never going to happen” was in response to him actually pulling out of the match.

CM Punk was believed to have been open to the bout but now other options are being explored. It should also be noted that NJPW sources confirmed that other top talent in the promotion are booked for the show with other opponents although many of these matches have not yet been announced.
Confirmed for Forbidden Door is the dream bout between Bryan Danielson and Kazuchika Okada and the IWGP US Title match between Will Ospreay and Kenny Omega. Jungle Boy Jack Perry continues his quest for gold as he challenges Sanada for the IWGP World Heavyweight Title and MJF is scheduled to face Hiroshi Tanahashi with the AEW World Title on the line. That is if MJF decides to show up.
