CM Punk Believes WWE Star Is “The Future Of The Business”

CM Punk

The future of WWE is bright, according to CM Punk.

At SummerSlam, CM Punk will challenge for World Championship gold for just the second time since returning to WWE in 2023.

After winning a Guntlet Match on Raw, Punk will now square off against Gunther in a televised bout for the first time. The pair first met in the ring in the 2024 Royal Rumble match before competing at a live event later that year. They then wrestled several times during WWE’s tour of Europe in March 2025.

While every big match is special, each opportunity is extra special for Punk, who is very much into the veteran stage of his career.

During a new interview with ComicBook Nation, Punk said that at this stage of the game, each one of these opportunities feels like a bonus.

“Listen, everything I’m doing on screen, on television, wrestling-wise now, it’s like extra credit. It’s a dream come true. I feel like I don’t know when the roller coaster ride ends for me. I want to squeeze as much out of it as I can. Being able to work with the top talkers, wrestlers, and minds in the industry has just rejuvenated me as a whole. So anytime I get to work with Paul, Roman, or even Seth. Guys like that tend to bring the best out of me, and in turn, I feel like I bring the best out of them. And it’s been a trip. I’m really enjoying everything I’m doing.”

CM Punk Heaps Praise On Gunther

Punk admitted that he probably doesn’t have time to wrestle everyone he’d like to before he retires, but that makes his match with Gunther even more special. The star also shouted out Bron Breakker, Chad Gable, and Damian Priest as people he’d love to work with.

“Just getting able to lace up my boots and lock up with Gunther at this stage in my career is more important to me than anything.”

I’m surrounded every day by such talented people, and I don’t think I have the time to be able to work with all of them, especially at the extent that I want to. So, I’m not trying to do a speed run and just share a ring with everybody, but Gunther’s at the top of the list of people that I look at as not only the present, they’re definitely the future of the business.

Bron Breakker, Chad Gable, Damian Priest, there are all these guys that I look at and I’m like, ‘Oh man, I want to get in there with them,’ and I immediately start just cooking up ideas.”

It was recently reported that Bron Breakker is one of three Superstars that WWE is positioning to take a top spot in the company. Breakker has been talked up as a future World Champion and WrestleMania main eventer since first steppping inthe ring back in 2021.
