CM Punk Comments On Potential WWE Return For AJ Lee
CM Punk has played down rumours of an imminent WWE return for his wife, AJ Lee.
The former three-time WWE Divas Champion spent six years with the company after inking a deal in 2009 following an impressive display at a tryout camp.
Lee announced her surprise retirement from WWE in April 2015, less than twelve months after marrying fellow Superstar CM Punk and just a handful of days after teaming with Paige to defeat The Bella Twins at WrestleMania 31.
The New Jersey-born 37 year-old would later explain that spinal issues and a desire to achieve goals outside of wrestling were behind the decision in her New York Times Best Selling autobiography ‘Crazy Is My Superpower: How I Triumphed by Breaking Bones, Breaking Hearts, and Breaking the Rules’.
Rumours surround an in-ring comeback for Lee have grown increasingly prevalent following the unlikely and successful WWE return of her husband, but that speculation appears to have been shot down after recent comments from Punk.
Speaking during the Money In The Bank Post-Show, Punk noted that he would like to see his wife return but stopped short of confirming it, instead suggesting he didn’t want to give fans false hope:
“I don’t want to fall in the trap of saying ‘never say never’. I don’t wanna give people false hope. I also will not put words in her mouth and say, ‘I think this could happen’.
I think this is a brave new world and I don’t think a lot of people thought I was gonna show up. It’s really all on her.
She’s busy, I’m super proud of her, she’s doing her own thing, she’s got a – I don’t even know if I’m allowed to talk about this stuff – she’s got a production company started up, she’s writing TV, movies, all kinds of stuff.
I will say as a fan of hers, would love to see it.”
CM Punk Edges Closer To In-Ring Return
CM Punk, however, could be closing in on a return to the squared circle following a 6 month absence.
The Chicago-native suffered a torn triceps muscle at the 2024 Royal Rumble and has been absent from the ring since that point despite embarking on a captivating feud with Drew McIntyre.
A bout between the pair could take place at SummerSlam, however, after Punk declared that he was almost ready for his big return.
