CM Punk And WWE “Old Heads” Challenged By Younger Star
CM Punk may have to deal with a younger WWE superstar who is tired of “old heads” still being in the spotlight.
As a pro wrestler who started in the business about 25 years ago, CM Punk is one of the oldest WWE superstars. Punk will turn 46 years old later this month. He’s also a guy who didn’t take a bump in a pro wrestling ring for over seven years, so perhaps that will help his longevity as a wrestler.
What’s unique about the current WWE roster is that they have several wrestlers under contract who are well into their 40s, they also have many superstars in the prime of their careers in their 30s and also a loaded roster of talent in their 20s, especially on NXT, who have bright futures ahead of them.
Dominik Mysterio is 27 years old and got to interact with Punk at a young age due to Punk’s feud with Dom’s dad Rey Mysterio at the time. While talking to Sports Illustrated, Dominik recalled what it was like working with Punk in those days.
“I was 11 years old, and he thought he was a big man. He was saying happy birthday to my loser sister.”
“I’d like to see him now. I was what – my dad’s height, 5’5’’, 5’2’’? Now I’m 6’1’’. I’m 200 pounds. I’ve seen him wrestle. Let’s see what you got, old man.”
Even though it hasn’t happened on television yet, CM Punk did wrestle and beat Dominik Mysterio at WWE live events in December 2023, which was Punk’s first match in a WWE ring in nearly ten years.
CM Punk, The Rock And Other WWE “Old Heads” Called Out By Dominik Mysterio
The trash talk toward CM Punk continued as Dominik Mysterio mentioned Punk by name as well as WWE legend The Rock.
“Honestly, I’m just tired of these old heads, thinking they can hang and come in here with this younger generation. I don’t even want to speak for everyone else.”
“I’m speaking for just myself. At the end of the day, I’m my own person. I’m the greatest Mysterio of all time. If these old heads want to come in and get it, they all can. CM Punk, The Rock, it doesn’t matter. They’re just mad because they don’t have hair, and I have the best hair and the best mustache.”
Those comments from Dominik are likely being said in character, which is part of the job of a WWE superstar.
As for his future, CM Punk is resting after a gruesome Hell in a Cell match victory over Drew McIntyre at Bad Blood, which was likely the end of that epic rivalry.
