CM Punk Celebrates First WWE Match In Chicago In Over A Decade

CM Punk WWE Raw

CM Punk got to perform in his hometown of Chicago in a WWE ring for the first time in a very long time.

When CM Punk made his triumphant return to WWE at Survivor Series 2023 it was in his hometown of Chicago at the Allstate Arena. It was the same arena where Punk had perhaps his most famous pro wrestling match when he beat John Cena for the WWE Title at Money in the Bank 2011.

Since his WWE return, CM Punk has only had five televised matches due to a torn triceps injury suffered in the 2024 Royal Rumble. That injury sidelined Punk for about six months and since WWE has limited live event dates, he doesn’t wrestle that often for the company.

As part of the post-Christmas holiday tour, Punk competed in matches over the last week where he picked up wins against Ludwig Kaiser (twice) and teamed with Rey Mysterio to beat The New Day.

At the December 29th WWE live event in Chicago, CM Punk challenged Gunther for the World Heavyweight Title in a Steel Cage Match, but Dominik Mysterio slammed the door shut on Punk when he was about to get the win. Gunther ended up winning the match. After the show, Punk took photos with fans and signed autographs for them. The match was Punk’s first WWE match in Chicago in over ten years.

While writing about the WWE live event tour on his Instagram stories, Punk called it a privilege to perform for WWE fans.

New York, Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Chicago. Thank you to everyone who bought a ticket to see us. Chicago. What can I say? I love you with all my heart. Been over ten years since I was able to wrestle in what I will always call the Rosemont Horizon. It is my privilege. Two million dollar houses, on our way to a third in Houston.

Proud of everyone on the crew who worked hard and made it all possible, except little Dominik Mysterio who is the greasy twat.

CM Punk Set For Face To Face Showdown With Seth Rollins

One of the big segments advertised for the final WWE Raw episode of the year is a face-to-face showdown between CM Punk and Seth “Freakin” Rollins.

That showdown between CM Punk and Seth Rollins on Raw will take place one week before their huge match on January 6th in Los Angeles. That’s a huge night for WWE because it’s the Raw debut on Netflix and the Punk-Rollins match has been promoted as the main event of that show.
