CM Punk Sticks With WWE For His 3 Best Ever Matches

CM Punk

CM Punk has shared a rundown of his greatest matches.

Across a career that’s now spanned two spells in WWE, an acclaimed run with Ring of Honor, and a spectacular if controversy-filled time with AEW, CM Punk has wrestled his fair share of classic matches.

From battles with Samoa Joe in ROH to blood-soaked wars with MJF in AEW, Punk has been box office for more than 25 years. But what matches stand above all others for the man himself?

During an appearance on No Contest Wrestling, the former World Champion was asked to name his three greatest matches, and the list had a decidedly WWE flavour.

“I think it’s easy to pick number one, it’s me and John Cena from Houston leading up to WrestleMania. It was on a Monday Night Raw. Easily I think our best-televised match, we might have had better matches on house shows, I don’t know. But that is also my flu match.

I was sick, and boy was I sick and tired at that point. So that is like the essence of CM Punk at that moment, hurt, tired, pissed off, chip on his shoulder, me and John went out there, it was just planets aligned and it was magic.

If I could ever say that I had a perfect match, that would probably be it. I’m talking lead up, story, character stuff for both guys, action, crowd, being able to manipulate the crowd how you wanted, listening to them, like everything.

I gotta give a shout out to Michael Cole on commentary too, because he’s been the voice of so many epic moments in my career. And this is the match where I hit the piledriver on John.”

Punk also had praise for his matches with The Undertaker and Brock Lesnar.

“I’ve had good matches in front of bad crowds. I’ve had bad matches in front of good crowds. So I would disqualify certain matches based on those criteria. But as close to perfect as you can possibly get, I would put CM Punk vs. The Undertaker at WrestleMania. And these are all around the same time too.

So could possibly be like the zenith of my in ring career? I don’t know. I still like to think I’m operating at a pretty high level. Me vs. Brock at Staples Center, SummerSlam. I think those three are a pretty good list.”

CM Punk Taking A Break From WWE

Meanwhile, it’s been reported that CM Punk will be taking some time off following his violent battle with Drew McIntyre inside Hell In A Cell.

On the Raw following Bad Blood, Punk addressed his status and suggested he was going home. This was despite being interrupted and taunted by long-time rival Seth Rollins. According to several reports on Punk, he’s not expected to work at Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia on November 2nd, so the segment was a way of writing him off television.

Before he headed home, CM Punk stopped off in NXT to watch backstage during the show’s latest taping, offering help and advice to WWE’s next generation.
