CM Punk Names Wrestling Return That Would Eclipse His Own

CM Punk

CM Punk has been discussing a very special comeback.

From the moment CM Punk walked back onto WWE television at Survivor Series 2023, fans have wondered whether his wife AJ Lee could follow him back into the company.

The star wrestled her last match in March 2015, announcing her retirement shortly after, but according to a recent report, the door remains open for a comeback. The belief is that WWE would be “totally on board” with a return, but a decision ultimately lies with the former Divas Champion.

During an appearance with Peter Rosenberg on Cheap Heat, Punk said a potential comeback for Lee would surpass his own.

“She 100% supersedes me. That’s the fun thing about wrestling fans. They look for stuff that necessarily isn’t there. That’s kind of the fun of it. Everyone is talking about, ‘Who is going to main event WrestleMania?’ ‘Who is going to enter the Royal Rumble?’ ‘Who is going to comeback?’ They are always looking around this time of year for big returns.

I had mine last year, I think hers would be bigger than mine, but again, I’m kinda hands off on the deal.”

Punk added that Lee is perhaps more likely to want to return now he’s back with WWE, but things aren’t that simple.

“Yeah, I would say it definitely did. It’s more of a workload thing for her. She is very busy. I’m not trying to not talk about it, but I’m also trying to temper people’s expectations. If she wraps up some stuff that she’s working on and she has the time and she feels like dipping her toe back in or jumping back in the pool, she’ll let us know.”

Her and I are similar in the regard that we’re out of time. You could pluck us both off from where we started and put us in any kind of era. I definitely think she would thrive here. She thrived back then when the focus wasn’t women, and now, this past week, every single television show we had opened with a women’s match and main evented with a women’s match. You can’t tell me she wouldn’t fit in there.”

CM Punk Fires Shot At AEW

During the same appearance, CM Punk vented some frustration about how his infamous run with AEW played out. When asked whether there was anyone he felt he missed out on working with, Punk fired a barb at his former employer.

The star said he “wasted matches on some people” within the company, adding that there are some who don’t understand the wrestling business. Something he says is very different in WWE.

Punk has been absent from WWE television since the Raw after Bad Blood in October. The former World Champion had defeated Drew McIntyre in a blood-soaked Hell in a Cell match at the event.
