CM Punk Won’t Be Added To Huge WrestleMania Match
CM Punk will be remaining close to Roman Reigns at WrestleMania.
It was reported on February 12 that WWE WrestleMania plans for Cody Rhodes and CM Punk could be changing yet again. According to the report, some within WWE want Punk to be added to the long-planned match between Rhodes and John Cena.
This would see Punk removed from his scheduled match against Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins.
It had been claimed Cody Rhodes vs. John Cena had been planned since October. The match would be set up by Cena winning the Elimination Chamber, and then chasing a 17th World Title win.
It should be noted that none of the matches mentioned above have been officially announced or advertised by WWE.
CM Punk Won’t Face John Cena At WrestleMania
Despite those claims, as noted on Wrestle Votes Radio via SportsKeeda’s Backstage Pass Patreon, not everyone is in favour of making Cena’s final WrestleMania match a Triple Threat. Furthermore, one source stated that the expectation is that the change won’t happen.
The report added that while the card isn’t yet complete, the top matches are “likely set.”
“Continuing with more context on Tuesday night’s SportsKeeda show with Bill Apter regarding WrestleMania main event plans, we know that some in WWE would prefer a three-way match between Cody Rhodes, John Cena, and CM Punk as opposed to the rumored singles match between Rhodes and Cena and the rumored triple threat match between Punk, Seth Rollins, and Roman Reigns.
According to a source, those feelings are not shared by everyone, with the expectation of this match being that it will not happen. We can confirm the Mania card is still being completed in totality. However, the high-level matches are likely set.”
Meanwhile, it’s been reported that WWE is “re-evaluating” its WrestleMania plans for Drew McIntyre after significant fan backlash online. It’s believed McIntyre is currently slated for a match against Damian Priest at the event.
