CM Punk Spent Thousands On Kind Backstage Gesture Before Major AEW Feud

CM Punk

Dax Harwood has shed some light on the kind of guy CM Punk was to some members of the AEW locker room while he was there.

Former two-time AEW World Champion CM Punk hasn’t been seen on AEW programming since he won the World Title from Jon Moxley at All Out in September. After a press conference rant, Punk got into a backstage fight with The Elite’s Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson). Those four men were all suspended after it while Punk’s friend and former AEW Producer Ace Steel was fired for his actions in the fight.

While Punk hasn’t talked about the backstage fight since it happened, he did joke about it recently saying: “I’m bad news, you don’t want me in the locker room.”

On his new FTR Podcast on Adfreeshows that’s now available everywhere you listen to podcasts, Dax Harwood recalled how he got along well with CM Punk while talking about their mutual admiration of Bret Hart while noting that Punk knew he’d be working a big storyline with MJF soon.

“Yeah, we had a match with Proud and Powerful, Santana and Ortiz, and he loved the match, and he told me he had been waiting to see us work live, because he had seen us, you know, before. And, you know, we just kind of started talking about that. And, obviously, the love of Bret Hart came into play, and we’re both enamored with him, we both think he’s the greatest. And, you know, whenever he was, he knew coming in that he was going to eventually work with Max in an angle.”

Harwood also recalled the time when Punk talked to everybody in The Pinnacle group – led by MJF – that was being pushed heavily when Punk arrived in AEW in the summer of 2021.

“And so he called all the guys in The Pinnacle in his locker room. And again, I said this before his locker room door was always open, you could walk in and walk out without knocking and say hello, you know, he was incredible at that. But he brought us in his locker room, and he sat everybody down. And he said, [we’re all going to be working together soon. And I can’t wait to work with you guys. I’m a fan of every single one of you. And I hope we can make a ton of money together and hope we can make a ton of money for this company.'”

“He said just to show you my appreciation, I have these for you. And he knew that most of us were coffee connoisseurs or we’d love coffee. And he had these gift cards for Starbucks with like $500 on each gift card. And he gave it to myself, Cash (Wheeler), Shawn (Spears), Wardlow and Max (MJF). He said this is he said no, this isn’t much, but this is to show my appreciation for you guys allowing me to work with you. And that’s kind of how things started rolling them.”

As for CM Punk’s AEW future, he’s still out of action recovering from a torn triceps injury suffered at All Out in September and it’s unknown if he’ll ever return to AEW again.
