CM Punk Shares Honest Thoughts On John Cena’s WWE Retirement Tour
CM Punk has weighed in on John Cena’s year-long retirement tour.
At the 2024 Money in the Bank PLE, Cena announced that he would be stepping away from wrestling and that 2025 would be his final year inside the squared circle.
While he admitted to asking for 200 appearances, WWE finalized 36 dates, with his last match taking place at Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13.
During his retirement run, Cena failed to win the Royal Rumble, but conquered the Elimination Chamber to meet Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 41.
After his Chamber victory, he turned heel and aligned himself with The Rock. At WrestleMania, Cena became a record 17-time World Champion by defeating Rhodes.
He subsequently faced several of his long-standing rivals, including Brock Lesnar, Randy Orton, and CM Punk. After dropping the title at SummerSlam, Cena became a Grand Slam Champion by winning the Intercontinental Championship for the first time in November.
He dropped the title to Dominik Mysterio at Survivor Series.
To close the retirement tour, he faced Gunther at SNME, where he lost after tapping out to The Ring General’s Sleeper hold.
CM Punk Shares His Thoughts About John Cena’s Retirement Tour
CM Punk, who shared a brief rivalry with John Cena in the latter’s retirement tour, spoke highly about the 17-time champion during the post-show, stating that he did his best with what WWE gave him.
He also took a jab at all the critics while claiming that watching Cena retire at the peak of his popularity was a rare sight.
He was consistently John. And I mean that he did his best at the time with what he was given. This business is full of people who will argue or and sometimes dumb themselves out of a position.
John has always taken what the task was and made it better and knocked it out of the park and that’s admirable. To watch him go into the sunset with such class and dignity is such a rare thing.
