CM Punk Wants To Team With WWE Legend Before Retirement
CM Punk has big plans.
For years, CM Punk and John Cena were bitter rivals. While both men were huge stars in their own right, they represented two very different ends of the pro wrestling spectrum. Cena holds the position as the very definition of a WWE company man, with Punk seemingly intent on destroying the establishment.
These ideals set the pair on a collision course for much of their careers, but if Punk gets his way, Cena will bow out in a very different fashion.
At Money In The Bank, Cena announced he’ll be retiring in 2025, after a year-long retirement tour. Unsurprisingly, since the announcement, stars past and present have been lining up to face the 16-time World Champion one more time.
During an appearance at Fanatics Fest NYC, Punk said he’d like to team with, rather than wrestle, Cena as he heads into retirement.
“John can do whatever John wants to when he comes back. I, selfishly, would like to tag with him. This is John’s story. He has earned the right to come back and do whatever. He can put his dirty feet on the couch, get mud all over the couch, do whatever he wants. If I fit in to whatever he wants to do, then I’ll be grateful,”
CM Punk Set For Grudge Match
Before he can even think about John Cena, CM Punk will again go head-to-head with Drew McIntyre at Bash In Berlin. This time, the heated rivals will do battle in a Strap Match.
After dubbing himself the “male Taylor Swift,” Punk laid down the challenge on the August 19th episode of Raw. The former AEW star has competed in a Strap Match in WWE just once in his career, getting the better of Umaga at Extreme Rules in 2009.
Meanwhile, it’s been reported that the feud between CM Punk and Drew McIntyre will continue beyond Bash In Berlin. It’s believed the pair will have another match at Bad Blood in October inside Hell In A Cell.
