CM Punk Talks UFC Debut, How Many Fights He Will Have And More
Former WWE Superstar CM Punk spoke to The UK Sun yesterday to talk about his future debut, how he won’t be a one and done guy, and how he plans on disappointing the fans – trust me he said it in his own unique way. How many fights will he have in the UFC?
“I can’t honestly answer how many (fights) I’m gonna have. We’ll wait and see how the first one goes. But there’s gonna be eight, at least.”
Reports that the UFC want him to debut at UFC 199 but he himself wants to debut at UFC 200
“Yeah, I’d rather be on (UFC) 200 because monetarily I’d be making more money, and that’s the big show. But I’m not doing this whole thing for money, so it almost kinda doesn’t matter to me. But since it’s only a month later it’s like ‘oh yeah, why don’t we push it?.’”
Whoever his first opponent is, Punk explained that they will be in for a “rude awakening”.
“I’m a mystery, a lot of people like to throw that pro wrestling card out there, like ‘he’s a fake wrestler’ and that’s great. That’s great for me. I want them to think that. I want them to think that I’m not training and they’re in for an easy night, because it’s the exact opposite. It’s going to be a rude awakening for whoever I fight, if that’s their attitude about it.”
Leaving people disappointed after they realized they backed the wrong horse
“I expect people to be disappointed, I expect all those people that think I’m gonna get knocked out in 10 seconds to be disappointed. I expect people to bet against me and lose their money. I expect people to get divorced because they’re upset that their wife wanted me to win and they wanted me to lose, you know? But the people who have stood by me and supported me know it’s business as usual. They know what kind of person I am and they know how I am at the gym. And once that cage door shuts it’s between one minute and 15 minutes before the fight ends and my hand gets raised.”
Ski’s Take – Looks like he brought his pro wrestling promo skills to the Octagon with him! Give him some time and he could be on a par with Connor McGregor when it comes to promoting his first fight.
Punk, throughout all his faults, can make people want to tune in, or buy a PPV, to see him possibly get his face punched to a pulp. People want him to lose, the arrogant attitude he has, it all makes people buy into the possibility of him losing. He makes money, he makes his boss money. Whether you like him or not, he is a draw.
With all the razzmatazz about the upcoming debut of CM Punk, surely this is a good thing for the WWE. He is an ex-WWE talent fighting somewhere else. With all the publicity of the fight, people that don’t know who Punk is might well research him and see his matches in the WWE. Maybe they like what they see there and become subscribers?
Will the hatchet be buried between Punk and the WWE? I very much doubt it, but even with all the animosity there is a lot money to be made for CM Punk, UFC and WWE.
