CM Punk Makes Stunning Claim About Potential WWE Heel Turn
CM Punk has addressed the possibility of being a heel on WWE television.
During CM Punk’s first run in WWE from 2006 until he left unhappily in January 2014, he had success as a babyface and a heel. The same thing goes for his ROH run before that, although a lot of those years were spent as a heel.
To be a heel, you need to be a gifted talker who can get the fans to hate you. Punk certainly has those traits as one of the best promo guys not just in this era, but in any era of pro wrestling.
Whether he was feuding with Jeff Hardy, The Undertaker, John Cena, or even Ryback, Punk knew how to get fans to hate him, and he was one of the best heels in the business for many years.
Since coming back to WWE at Survivor Series 2023 after nearly a decade away, CM Punk has been a babyface who has had blood feuds with the likes of Drew McIntyre and Seth Rollins, both of whom are among the best heels of this era.
CM Punk Dismisses Talk Of A WWE Heel Turn
During an appearance on Pardon My Take, CM Punk spoke about a potential heel turn and why he may never be a heel again because of how much the fans love him.
“It’s interesting. A lot of people are always like, ‘Oh, you’re a much better heel than you are a babyface.’ Okay—like, I get that. I feel that. It’s just a lot easier to get people to hate you than it is to get people to truly love you.
And I’m in this space now where I don’t know if I’m ever going to be a bad guy again, ’cause it seems I’ve kind of leveled up. I’ve reached this point where, like, a lot of it’s nostalgia, and a lot of it is, I think, how hard I work and how I still can compete at that super high level.”
As we have seen many times in pro wrestling, no matter how loved a wrestler is, that doesn’t mean they can’t turn heel at any time.
CM Punk will be in tag team action with his wife, AJ Lee, against Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch this Saturday, September 20th, at Wrestlepalooza.
