CM Punk Announces Rivalry With WWE Legend Officially Ended

CM Punk is currently focusing on the World Heavyweight Championship match against Gunther at SummerSlam 2025.

Since returning to the company, The Best in the World has expressed his desire to win his next world championship, but hasn’t been able to secure one.

He won the Gauntlet match against Bron Breakker, LA Knight, Penta, and Jey Uso to secure the SummerSlam opportunity.

The Franchise Player and The Second City Saint had a rivalry that spanned over a decade. When Cena announced his Farewell Tour, CM Punk wanted to be a part of it.

And I immediately I grabbed him and I said, ‘hey I don’t know if I figure into your plans, whatever you want to do, but man, I’m your Huckleberry. To me, selfishly, I wanna be a part of it. So, you want me on commentary for one of your matches, you want me to be a referee, I’ll drive you to the shows, buddy, like, whatever it takes to get me to be a small part of your story because he was such a big part of mine. And yeah, that was it.

At Night of Champions, the stalwarts entered the ring for the final time as rivals. The WWE Universe wasn’t expecting Punk to dethrone John Cena, but it was the ending of a chapter that made fans gravitate towards the match.

While speaking to India Today, Punk talked about his match against Cena at Night of Champions and revealed that it was the last time the duo had battled.

Like, there’s something romantic and poetic about it, the John Cena and CM Punk rivalry. There’s a beginning, there’s a middle, and now there’s an end, and that’s life.

While Punk will face Gunther at SummerSlam, John Cena will face Cody Rhodes.
