CM Punk Reaffirms Sasha Banks Support
The Voice of The Voiceless CM Punk has spoken up again as the AEW World Champion doubles down on his support for Sasha Banks.
Sasha Banks and fellow WWE Superstar Naomi have not been a part of WWE programming since they walked out of Raw on May 16th, turning over their WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship belts in the process. The two women were reported to be extremely frustrated over creative decisions and after their walkout, the pair were publicly lambasted by WWE announcer Michael Cole and both women were suspended by the company.
They have found support in the form of AEW star CM Punk who famously walked out of WWE after his own frustration boiled over in early 2014. Punk ended his seven-year wrestling exile when he joined AEW in August 2021 to much fanfare.
Now after making previous comments about the situation regarding Banks and Naomi, CM Punk has doubled down on his support on The Hashtag Show at San Diego Comic Con, where he explained his solidarity with Sasha Banks (Mercedes Varnado) despite not knowing her:
“My thing is, I can’t listen to people criticize me if I wouldn’t ask advice from them. You can’t lead people somewhere you’ve never gone. I try to be as humble as I can be, and I don’t like talking about myself, but I was the first guy through the wall. I got f*cking bloodied for it.
To watch somebody else stand up and walk out, I’m always going to support that, 100 f*cking percent. I’ve never met Mercedes, I don’t know her, but I definitely feel solidarity with her. I know how that place is. I know how women are treated there. I’m not a woman myself, so I can’t put myself in those shoes, but there are probably a lot of reasons why she peaced out.”
Punk’s comments come amid rumours that with a changing of the guard in WWE that both Sasha Banks and Naomi have agreed to their return – although this remains unconfirmed.
