CM Punk Has Intriguing Reaction To WWE Backlash Match

CM Punk was keeping a close eye on at least one match at WWE Backlash.

Backlash saw Jeff Cobb make his shock WWE debut as he laid out LA Knight, helping Jacob Fatu to retain his US Championship. However, Fatu didn’t look too happy at Solo Sikoa’s latest acquisition for The Bloodline as the group threatens to explode.

The main event saw John Cena successfully defend his WWE Championship against Randy Orton with another unlikely assist. During the match, the referee was taken out, leading to officials coming to the ring to assist them. SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis and Shane Helms were among those who suffered RKOs from an irate Orton, who had the match won.

As Randy Orton looked to punt John Cena’s head into row Z, R-Truth interrupted, begging Orton not to take out the man Truth thinks is his childhood hero. Truth suffered an RKO for his trouble, but the distraction was enough for Cena to hit a low blow and a belt shot to retain his gold. And CM Punk was watching.

Following Cena’s win, CM Punk took to social media to share a shot of Cena on his TV with Michael Cole’s commentary subtitled on the screen reading “Cena is still the champ.” However, CM Punk added to this with his own caption reading “For now.”

Since returning to WWE, CM Punk has not had a televised shot at a world championship, although he has faced Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship several times on live events.
