CM Punk Named One Of The Most Unique Wrestlers In History

A top WWE star can’t wait to wrestle CM Punk.

After dispatching Goldberg at Saturday Night’s Main Event, World Heavyweight Champion Gunther was left without a number one contender. Step forward, CM Punk.

On the July 14 edition of Raw, Punk emerged victorious from a Guntlet Match featuring Penta, Jey Uso, Bron Breakker, and LA Knight to earn a shot at Gunther at SummerSlam.

Since then, the rivalry between the two men has only increased, with things coming to a head during a tense face-to-face on July 28.

Gunther Can’t Wait To Face CM Punk

During a new interview with the Radio Times, Gunther discussed his rise to the top of WWE, the wider popularity of the company, and of course, his upcoming date with Punk.

With regard to the match at SummerSlam, Gunther said that the challenge of going up against someone like Punk is why he signed with the company.

“I’m looking forward to getting in the ring with [Punk] on a big stage like SummerSlam in a prominent spot like that,” said Gunther. “That’s why I joined the company, I wanted to be in the ring with the top, top guys and him coming back was a big deal, he’s one of the most unique performers that the business has ever had. That’s what I’m here for. I’m all ready for it and I’m prepared and I’m excited.”

Gunther added that he’s embracing the pressure that comes with such a high-profile match, and that facing Punk is one of the most exciting battles of his career.

“I’ve always operated better when I’ve had responsibility [placed] on me and that’s the case here. I embrace it and I enjoy it, and SummerSlam is the next big one. I did ‘Mania with Jey [Uso] but I feel like SummerSlam with Punk from an overall perspective is the one that I’m most excited for so far,”

The match at SummerSlam will be Punk’s second attempt at winning the World Championship since he returned to WWE in late 2023. After coming up short against John Cena at Night of Champions, CM Punk confirmed that the pair won’t wrestle again.
