CM Punk Making WWE Hall Of Famer Proud

A WWE Hall of Famer has praised CM Punk for showing incredible growth as a person.

The main event of WWE Night of Champions saw John Cena defend the Undisputed WWE Championship against one of his greatest rivals, CM Punk.

In the days leading up to the show, Punk received a lot of attention for wrestling at Night of Champions, as he had made controversial comments about WWE running shows in Saudi Arabia. Punk used those Saudi shows to insult The Miz several years ago, but Punk apologized for that.

CM Punk also issued an apology to the Saudi Arabian people during an event promoting Night of Champions. While Punk is still a guy with an attitude who says what’s on his mind, he has also matured significantly as a man in his late 40s, as we all do as we go through life.

During the WWE Night of Champions post-show, WWE’s Chief Content Officer and Hall of Famer, Paul “Triple H” Levesque, discussed Punk’s maturation and growth as a person.

“If you’d have told me 10 years ago that CM Punk would be here in Saudi for the WWE, I would have thought you’re out of your mind.

But people grow, people change, people evolve, and they learn, and they learn a lot in life. Not only was I privileged to watch them this week as they prepared for this fight, I was privileged to watch two men grow as people, especially CM Punk.

I was privileged to watch him grow as a human being, to step out here and apologize to the people of Saudi Arabia, to just cherish where he is at in life and his career and the things he gets to do and the opportunities that he has. I was incredibly proud of him.”

CM Punk Loses WWE Title Match To John Cena Because Of Seth Rollins

The WWE Title match between John Cena and CM Punk ended in controversy, like most matches that Cena has had this year as part of his retirement tour. Cena hit Punk with the Attitude Adjustment three times in the match for two counts while Punk hit the GTS twice, but there was no referee to count the second one because he was knocked out of the ring by a Cena shoulder tackle.

When Punk called for a referee to come down, the Money in the Bank holder Seth Rollins walked out instead, joined by Bron Breakker, Bronson Reed and Paul Heyman. That led to a chaotic situation, in which Penta and Sami Zayn showed up to try to nullify Rollins and his friends.

Punk extended a hand to Cena, and Cena shook his hand. As Cena hugged Punk, Cena had a heel look on his face and he went for the low blow. Punk was ready with a GTS attempt, but Rollins was there to hit Punk with the briefcase in the head. Rollins hit The Stomp on Punk, Cena tossed Rollins out of the ring, the original referee, Dan Engler, was back in there, and Cena covered Punk for the pinfall win.

That meant Seth Rollins was directly responsible for Punk not winning the WWE Title, which means the rivalry will continue. At the same time, Cena remains the WWE Champion, who benefited from Rollins’ assistance.
