CM Punk “Made Magic” With Hated WWE Rival
A top WWE star used their “genuine disdain” for CM Punk for good.
After returning to WWE at Survivor Series 2023, CM Punk looked to establish himself as a force to be reckoned with as he arrived at the Royal Rumble. Unfortunately for the former AEW star, things quickly went off the rails as he suffered a serious triceps injury while clashing with Drew McIntyre in the men’s Rumble match.
Despite Punk being unable to wrestle for several months, the incident sparked a major on-screen rivalry between the pair. As the months passed, Punk cost McIntyre the World Title twice before they finally got in the ring at SummerSlam.
At the summer spectacular, McIntyre got the win, but Punk evened things up at Bash In Berlin. The score was finally settled (at least for now) at Bad Blood where Punk saw off McIntyre in one of the bloodiest and most violent Hell In A Cell matches WWE had seen in years.
Drew McIntyre Reflects On CM Punk Rivalry
During an interview with the Daily Mail, McIntyre looked back at his lengthy rivalry with Punk, explaining that the pair made magic. The former World Champion said the genuine issues between himself and Punk made their rivalry much more memorable.
“As much as we have certain feelings towards each other, we both are aware we’ve got certain magic with each other. It’s a tale as old as time. The more people have a genuine disdain for each other, people can truly feel it. And if you’re actually good at your job, like we are, it does create magic. And the whole process was magic, and the cell itself was a match that we talked about forever.”
During the same interview, Drew McIntyre said The Rock has been a mentor to him since he joined WWE. The Scottish star added that the Final Boss is currently working on a “little favour” for him.
