What Did CM Punk Tell John Cena After Finding Out About Retirement?
CM Punk has revealed details behind his backstage interaction with John Cena after the legendary WWE Superstar announced he would be retiring in 2025.
An emotional 16-time World Champion Cena made a shock appearance at Money In The Bank on 6th July to announce that 2025 would mark his final year as an in-ring competitor.
Speaking during the Money In The Bank Post Show press conference, former adversary CM Punk joked that he could still prise Cena out of retirement in years to come before going on to praise Cena’s influence on his career and expressing his desire to battle ‘The Doctor Of Thuganomics’ one more time before he hangs up his boots at the end of 2025:
“I was pleasantly surprised to run into him afterward. I told him, ‘I’ll be the guy that drags him out of retirement.’ This ‘retirement’ that he says he’s going to adhere to and this is it and when the final one happens that’s going to be it. 15 years, I’ll drag him out of retirement.
Cena, to my career, means a lot. I don’t think there is many people up in that rare air, where if you talk about my career, I feel you have to talk about John. It makes me feel proud that I think if you talk about John’s career, I think you have to talk about me. We’re married in that respect.
I’m proud of him. He gets to go out on his terms. I know that is important. I’m looking forward to what he does. I told him, ‘If it’s going to be one more time, we have to do it at least one more time.”
CM Punk Reacts To AJ Lee Return Rumours
Whilst John Cena’s days inside a WWE ring are numbered, one other former Champion who is rumoured to be on the verge of a return to the company is CM Punk’s wife, AJ Lee.
The former three-time WWE Divas Champion shockingly retired from the ring shortly after a winning appearance at WrestleMania 31 in 2015, where she teamed with Paige to defeat The Bella Twins.
Speculation about Lee’s return have been rife in recent times, although husband Punk appeared to shoot down rumours when questioned recently.
