CM Punk Hits Out At AEW Stars Who Don’t Understand The Business

CM Punk

CM Punk’s feelings on AEW haven’t mellowed.

On August 20th, 2021, CM Punk made a remarkable return to professional wrestling on AEW Rampage. Following his acrimonious departure from WWE in 2014, many believed Punk would never wrestle again, but when the opportunity for a comeback arose, he couldn’t turn it down.

However, Punk’s AEW spell was beset by controversy, and things exploded at the post-All Out 2022 press conference where he took aim at several AEW stars including management. Once done addressing the media, the star then got into a fight with the Young Bucks and Kenny Omega with Ace Steel also involved.

While Punk eventually returned to action, chaos was never far from the surface and a backstage spat with Jack Perry erupted at All In 2023. This ended with another backstage fight, but this time, Punk was fired.

Speaking to Peter Rosenberg on Cheap Heat, Punk was asked whether there was anyone in AEW he felt he could have told a story with who he didn’t get a chance to. He said there wasn’t, but he appears to have some regrets.

“No. I feel like I wasted some matches on some people, for sure. That is what it is. Some people understand the business and some people don’t. I think everybody here understands the business,”

Kenny Omega Throws Jab At CM Punk

The comments from CM Punk come after Kenny Omega took a shot at the star, suggesting he was “unfit to be a professional.” Although it should be noted he never mentioned Punk by name. The AEW star was speaking after Gabe Kidd attacked him backstage at NJPW Power Struggle.

Gabe Kidd himself then got in on the action, calling footage of “Little Phil’s” scuffle with Jack Perry the most embarrassing thing he’d ever seen.
