CM Punk Match Being Discussed For Forbidden Door Against NJPW Veteran
Plans appear to be in place for CM Punk to face a very important person at AEW-NJPW Forbidden Door.
In the past week or so, two massive dream matches have been confirmed for the second AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door PPV in Toronto. The first is the rematch between Kenny Omega and Will Ospreay for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship and the second is a singles match between Kazuchika Okada and Bryan Danielson.
With Forbidden Door shaping up to be a major event, it stands to reason that CM Punk will have his own match on the show as well. And according to Fightful Select, his opponent for this event appears to have been selected, at least internally, and that man is KENTA.
According to Fightful, KENTA recently tweeted that he’d be interested in working Forbidden Door for the right price. Fightful also noted that AEW appears to be willing to match whatever price KENTA is looking for as he appears to have agreed to work the event.

As for why CM Punk and KENTA would be facing off, the storyline reason for it is likely to be the Go 2 Sleep finishing move. KENTA invented the move back during the mid-2000s, but CM Punk was the one who adopted the move and popularized it stateside.
Since then, the move has become more associated with Punk than it has with its creator, which has led to some potshots on Twitter between both men over the move.
