CM Punk Reveals When He Expects To Be Cleared For WWE In-Ring Return
CM Punk is ready to return to the ring and mentioned a specific date regarding when he might get cleared by his doctors.
It was way back at Survivor Series in Chicago in November 2023 when CM Punk made his shocking return to WWE after nearly a decade away. Unfortunately for Punk, he has competed in just one televised match in the nearly eight months since his return.
The reason for Punk’s lack of matches is that he tore his triceps during the Men’s Royal Rumble match in January when he finished as the runner-up to Cody Rhodes. Punk had surgery to repair his torn triceps days later and was set for a lengthy absence.
After Punk’s injury, Drew McIntyre said he was happy about it and prayed for it to happen, which led to the two men exchanging words several times and building a personal rivalry over the last six months. That led to CM Punk costing McIntyre the World Heavyweight Title at WrestleMania 40 and again at Clash at the Castle in Drew’s home country of Scotland.
At the post-WWE Clash at the Castle press conference, CM Punk stated that he hopes to be cleared by his doctors to return to the ring as soon as this upcoming week.
“I’ve been cleared, only for referee duty. I had a little bit of a hiccup out there. We’ll go back to the lab and reassess. I can tell you that my arm feels amazing. I got permission to skip Raw in Corpus Christi to go home to Chicago to see my doctors with the idea that I’m going to be cleared.”
“I think SmackDown is in Chicago next week. I’m a Raw guy, but I’m going to skip Raw, get cleared, and show up to SmackDown and let everybody know the good news. Hopefully.”
Punk also admitted that he wasn’t sure if he was allowed to reveal that information, but he also has never been afraid to speak his mind.
How Did CM Punk Cost Drew McIntyre At Clash At The Castle?
During the WWE Clash at the Castle main event between Drew McIntyre and World Heavyweight Champion Damian Priest, referee Eddie Orengo got knocked off the apron to the floor. McIntyre hit a Claymore Kick soon after and had the match won as the fans counted past three. That’s when somebody slid in with a referee’s shirt to count the pin and it was CM Punk, who stopped the count at two.
McIntyre was furious with Punk, so he shoved him against the turnbuckle and Punk kicked McIntyre in the groin. Priest recovered, hit South of Heaven, and the original referee Orengo was back up to count the pin.
Since CM Punk says he should be cleared to return to the ring very soon, WWE fans will likely soon get to see the highly anticipated McIntrye-Punk match.
