CM Punk Explains Why He Was So Emotional Watching Cody Rhodes
CM Punk is an old softy.
At WrestleMania 41, CM Punk will finally achieve his dream when he takes part in the main event of night one opposite Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins. Given the role he played in the early main roster careers of both men, the match represents something of a full-circle moment for the veteran.
Meanwhile, night two is set to be headlined by the WWE Title match between John Cena and Cody Rhodes.
In recent years, Rhodes has become arguably the biggest star in the entire industry, but Cena is a man on a mission. Should Cena beat Rhodes, he’ll claim the World Championship for a record 17th time, moving him clear of Ric Flair.
But it’s Rhodes’ growth and transformation that recently moved Punk.
CM Punk Is Proud Of Cody Rhodes
During an interview with Sebastian Hackl of WWE Deutschland, Punk was asked about getting emotional during Cody Rhodes’ entrance during WWE’s European tour. Punk explained that he was proud to see Rhodes so beloved by fans, and getting to experience it left him choked up.
I’m just an old softy now, you know? I’ve known Cody (Rhodes) for 20 years so, again, seeing how far he’s come and just the perspective I was at. I was sitting on the ring so essentially, I had a fan’s perspective and I see Cody come out and his song and I watch him bounce back and forth from aisle to aisle.
Greeting little boys, little girls, grown ass men, grandmas, grandpa. People of all ages. Everybody who comes out to see WWE and they love him, you know? And he’s high fiving people and he’s kissing babies and to watch the crowd love him the way they love me or they love a Stone Cold or a Bret Hart, it’s just exciting to see. Because I know what that feels like and I want all my friends to succeed.
I wanna see that and I didn’t just get to see it, I got to experience it firsthand so it choked me up a little bit.
Meanwhile, a new report has offered an update on the WrestleMania 41 day splits. However, several matches are set to be added, and there’s plenty of time for things to change.
