CM Punk Reveals How “Cult Of Personality” Played Role In WWE Return
CM Punk made sure to help out Living Colour.
Over the course of his career, CM Punk has become synonymous with “Cult of Personality” by Living Colour. The song has provided the soundtrack to many of the biggest moments of his career, including his stunning debut with AEW, and shocking return to WWE at Survivor Series.
Speaking on No-Contest Wrestling, Punk recalled trying to keep his WWE return a secret, revealing the band was going to turn down the company’s attempts to license the song if he wasn’t involved.
“I’m tight with the band. They’re calling me going, ‘Hey, they’re trying to license the song again. If this isn’t for you, it’s a hard no.’ I didn’t want to say anything. I kind of told them it was for me without saying. ‘Maybe you should…’ Corey (Glover) is like, ‘Is it you or not you?’
Punk then confirmed that the band re-recorded the song for him to use, meaning any money made went directly to them.
“Yes. That’s because we pay the band. We’re not paying the record label. They re-recorded it and remastered it. I feel much better going, ‘Here you go.’”
During the same interview, CM Punk revealed his new WWE contract was still being finalised just minutes before he walked out at Survivor Series. Punk said he “still didn’t have a deal” when the men’s WarGames match began, but his involvement was never really in doubt.
Drew McIntyre “Banged Up” Following CM Punk Clash
CM Punk was most recently in action at Bad Blood where he took on and defeated Drew McIntyre inside Hell in a Cell. Ahead of the match, Punk pledged to bring back the match to its former glory, and it would be tough to argue that he and his Scottish rival didn’t do just that.
The match has been hailed as something of a throwback to classic cell matches from years gone by, with blood spilled on both sides.
After the match, it was reported that Drew McIntyre needed 16 staples to close a head wound suffered after being hit with a steel toolbox.
