CM Punk Called Out By Rising WWE Star

A superstar on the rise is hoping to “make magic” with CM Punk in a WWE ring very soon.

When CM Punk made his shocking return to WWE at Survivor Series 2023 in Chicago, it led to fans thinking about potential matches.

After spending a decade away from WWE, there are still wrestlers who Punk wrestled many times in the past like John Cena, Randy Orton, Rey Mysterio and so on, but there are also a whole bunch of new wrestlers who could face off against Punk for the first time.

Unfortunately for Punk, he tore his triceps at the Royal Rumble in January and missed about six months of action, so he hasn’t had a chance to meet those familiar foes or new rivals in the ring.

CM Punk has only had four matches in WWE this year, but the last one at Bad Blood with Drew McIntyre was a Hell in a Cell bloodbath that is a candidate for WWE Match of the Year.

During Punk’s first WWE run from 2006 to January 2014, he had success as both a heel and a face. However, it’s his heel persona that really caught on from the summer of 2009 over the next couple of years.

Grayson Waller of WWE SmackDown spoke to Chris Van Viet on Insight recently and had CM Punk in mind when talking about future opponents.

“There’s one guy that I think I’d make magic with and that’s CM Punk. I think the way CM Punk does his business, the way he talks, I’d have so much fun with that. I can just feel it. Even the small interactions that we’ve had — I threw a little bit of trash talk at him before he got here just in case he ever did and now that he’s here, I feel like me and Punk would have a lot of fun.”

As Waller continued, he spoke about how he thought he could use Punk’s past against him if the two men had a rivalry.

“Sometimes that’s where the biggest heat lies is when you’re too similar. I think me and Punk definitely have our similarities. He’s a guy I’d definitely like to stand across from, especially on the mic, he’s almost untouched the way he carries himself and how confident he is. He doesn’t care.

Whether he’s good or bad, he doesn’t care what people think, he’s gonna say what he thinks and I love that energy. I love that he has that energy but I wanna give that back to him. I want to see how he feels when someone does what he does to people to him.

That’s how I felt with Shawn (Michaels) a little bit. It’s like, ‘Shawn, remember what you used to be like? How’s it feel, now you’re feeling what it’s like to have you coming at you.’ I feel that with Punk. Punk’s ruling it right now but I want to be CM Punk from 15 years ago coming at him and see how he reacts and feels about that.”

CM Punk Headed To MSG For WWE Live Event

The next time that the straight edge superstar has a televised match isn’t known right now, but it was confirmed earlier this week that CM Punk will be part of the WWE live event at Madison Square Garden in New York City on Thursday, December 26th, which is the day after Christmas.

Other big names advertised for the show are stars of Raw including World Heavyweight Champion Gunther, Liv Morgan, Seth “Freakin” Rollins, Drew McIntyre, Jey Uso, and more.
