CM Punk Breaks Silence On John Cena’s Pipebomb WWE SmackDown Promo

CM Punk John Cena WWE

CM Punk finally addressed John Cena’s pipebomb WWE SmackDown promo.

Last Friday on SmackDown, John Cena lost to R-Truth via disqualification. As CM Punk came to Truth’s aid after the match, The Franchise Player put him through a table.

The Undisputed WWE Champion then went on to recreate Punk’s pipebomb promo, grabbing a microphone and sitting on the turnbuckle.

The Franchise Player took major shots at his Night of Champions opponent, claiming he was no longer The Voice of the Voiceless. He also called out The Second City Saint for allegedly constantly changing his values.

When asked if what happened on SmackDown would make his feud with Cena more personal going into Saturday’s Premium Live Event at the 2025 SummerSlam press conference, Punk finally broke his silence on the subject.

The former WWE Champion claimed the only true thing Cena said last Friday was that he was jealous of him, emphasizing that it did not make sense to him.

No, I don’t think so. Just because people come out on television and lie about me doesn’t make it true. John said one true real thing last night and that’s he’s jealous of me.

And it doesn’t seem to make any sense because he’s the greatest of all time, right? 17-time World Champion. I don’t know if anybody in this room is going to live long enough to see anybody else accomplish that. It could be Randy [Orton]. Randy is probably our best bet. One thing, the big difference between Randy and John is Randy didn’t sell his soul to The Rock. [52:35 onwards]

CM Punk Plans On Dethroning John Cena At WWE Night Of Champions

When asked whether he would recreate history by ending John Cena’s Undisputed WWE Championship reign this Saturday at Night of Champions as he did at SummerSlam 2011, CM Punk confirmed that was what he planned to do.

However, The Second City Saint pointed out that he would be dealing with a different John Cena, one that takes shortcuts. He added that his job would be to take the title from him and then have him apologize to the fans for his recent actions.

Yeah, that’s the plan. This is a different John Cena. This is one that takes shortcuts. This is one that you’ve seen, I mean, he kicked me in the balls the other night. So, I’m not the guy that is always done the honorable thing like John has. And I’ve been able to exploit that in my career.

So, Saturday’s gonna be a little bit different. I’m dealing with a John Cena that’s desperate. I’m dealing with a John Cena that knows that his window is closing because he’s got X amount of dates left. So, my job is to take the title from him and then make him come back to all these places and apologize to the people for the way he’s acting. [54:29 onwards]
