CM Punk Makes Bold Statement About Current WWE Run

CM Punk

CM Punk made an interesting comment about where he currently is as a WWE superstar.

At the WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event special on November 1st, CM Punk will face Jey Uso in a match for the vacant World Heavyweight Championship.

Punk and Jey will each be trying to win the World Title for the second time this year after each of them beat Gunther to become World Champion. Jey won his first singles World Title at WrestleMania 41 earlier this year, while CM Punk became a 6-time WWE World Champion at SummerSlam.

This time around, if Punk wins the World Title again, then he won’t have to worry about somebody cashing in Money in the Bank on him like Seth Rollins did at SummerSlam. Due to Rollins cashing in Money in the Bank, Punk only held the World Title for about five minutes.

Earlier this week, CM Punk turned 47, making him one of the oldest wrestlers on the WWE roster. Some of his contemporaries in WWE, like John Cena and AJ Styles, are planning retirements while Punk is going strong.

While speaking to KSL News Utah, CM Punk stated that he would be okay with opening Saturday Night’s Main Event instead of necessarily being in the main event.

“Every single match will be high stakes, high drama. People always talk about who’s the main event. But on a card like this, I almost want to be the opener; I want to get done with work and sit and watch the rest of the show. These matches are all hot.”

CM Punk Believes He Is Doing The Best Work Of His Career

Over the last 30 years, since he started wrestling, CM Punk has done some incredible work, whether in the indies, ROH, his first WWE run, his return to wrestling in AEW, or the last two years in WWE. In Punk’s opinion, he’s performing at his best right now.

“I’m fortunate that I’m continuing to level up in this business. I just turned 47 the other day, and some people would say that’s a detriment; I think it’s one of the more positive things about me.

“I’m ‘this old’ and operating on this level, doing what to me is the best work of my career.”

Whether all of Punk’s fans would agree with that is unknown, but the man clearly believes in himself and it’s what makes Punk likable to a lot of his fans.

There are four matches officially announced for WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event on November 1st.

  • For The Vacant WWE World Heavyweight Championship: CM Punk vs. Jey Uso
  • Undisputed WWE Championship: Cody Rhodes (c) vs. Drew McIntyre
  • WWE Women’s Championship: Tiffany Stratton (c) vs. Jade Cargill
