CM Punk Names Bizarre Moment That Proved He’d “Made It” In WWE
It until 2011 for CM Punk to feel that he’d made it in WWE.
While he was already an independent hero by the time he arrived in WWE, CM Punk was arguably never meant to become the star that he did. He was the antithesis of everything Vince McMahon traditionally looked for in a “top guy,” but through sheer ‘cult of personality,’ he took the company by storm.
Although there was an explosive split in 2014, Punk has since returned to the company and is again recognised as one of its most valuable stars.
During an appearance on Unsportsmanlike with Evan Cohen, Chris Canty, and Michelle Smallmon, Punk recalled the humorous moment he realised he’d made it in WWE.
“There used to be one makeup lady (in WWE). Her name was Jane. Not the nicest lady in the world. This is how I knew I made it. My first time, I was under contract in Ohio Valley Wrestling, and I was brought up to do a dark match.
I found the spray bottle that was in the makeup case, and I was wetting my hair. I hear, down the hallway, all these expletives, like a sailor was yelling at me. I turn around, and it was Jane. ‘What do you think you’re doing? That is for talent. Put it down.’ I was like, ‘Okay.’ Quietly tiptoe away.
That was 2005. In 2011, CM Punk became the hottest superstar in the business, and Jane walks up to me one day and goes, ‘How come you never come see me? You know I can cut your hair, right?’ I was like, ‘I made it. I’m a top guy now.”
CM Punk Hits Brakes On Backstage WWE Role
Speaking elsewhere, CM Punk distanced himself from speculation that he could take a position backstage while still wrestling. While the former World Champion didn’t rule out working backstage in the future, he suggested that being “in the office” as a wrestler, “doesn’t mix.”
Punk went on to discuss his relationship with Triple H and how it’s changed since he returned to the company. He described working with him as a “real treat,” adding that they’ve only scratched the surface since 2023.
