CM Punk Apologises For Controversial Saudi Arabia Comments
CM Punk has apologised.
Back in 2018, WWE announced a blockbuster 10-year deal with Saudi Arabia, which would see two events held in the kingdom per year.
The deal between Saudi Arabia and the sports entertainment giant continues to draw a huge amount of criticism given Saudi Arabia’s poor human rights record, allegations of sportswashing, and political tension stemming from the assassination of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.
Female wrestlers were also originally banned from performing at the events, but this was changed in 2019, although they’re unable to wear their regular gear.
While away from the company in 2020, CM Punk got into a very public spat with The Miz and fired off a now-deleted tweet in his direction.
“Go s*ck a blood money-covered d**k in Saudi Arabia, you f**king dork.”

Those comments and Punk’s public support of the LGBTQ community led some to believe he wouldn’t wrestle in Saudi Arabia following his return to WWE, but that hasn’t proven to be the case.
At Night of Champions, Punk will challenge John Cena for the Undisputed WWE Championship in Riyadh.
Ahead of the show at a kick-off event, Punk apologised for his comments aimed at The Miz, adding that he was grateful to be in Saudi Arabia for Night of Champions.
“Legitimately had nothing to do with Saudi Arabia. I woke up crabby and I wrote a mean tweet to The Miz and I apologised to The Miz…and I sincerely apologise to all of Saudi Arabia. I’m not perfect by any means, sometimes as human beings we screw up. The beautiful thing is everything is a lesson learned, and now here I am and you’ve invited me into your country and I’m grateful to be here. Thank you very much.”
Night of Champions will also feature the finals of the King and Queen of the Ring tournaments.
