CM Punk Chooses His All-Time WWE Dream Matches

CM Punk has two WWE Hall of Famers in mind when it comes to his wrestling dream matches.

For the past 25 years, CM Punk has had an incredible run in pro wrestling that has seen him compete against some of the best wrestlers in the business.

Even though CM Punk spent seven years away from pro wrestling after leaving WWE in 2014 and coming back to AEW in 2021, he still has a legacy in pro wrestling that will live on forever.

During a recent interview with NFL legends Shannon Sharpe and Chad Johnson on their NightCap with Shannon Sharpe and Ochocinco podcast, the hosts asked Punk who his pro wrestling dream matches would be with.

“One name always comes to mind, and that’s Stone Cold Steve Austin. Unfortunately, he had to retire because of injuries, and he had a stroke, but Bret Hart is another one.

Bret Hart would be a dream for me because that is a guy I looked up to when I was a kid. That’s a guy that helped get me into this sport from an interest perspective and that’s a guy who, to this day, I could text Bret right now and be like, ‘What’s up? I have a question and need some advice.’ He’ll hit me back right away. Much love to him.

We have a pretty wealthy locker room when it comes to talent right now. There are a lot of people I would love to get in there with Gunther, he’s the champ on Raw. Would love to mix it up with my boy Cody (Rhodes). As far as legends go, the ones that probably aren’t going to happen but are dream matches, Austin is number one with a bullet.”

Steve Austin wasn’t an active wrestler during Punk’s first WWE run, but Austin wrestled at WrestleMania 38 in 2022 when he beat Kevin Owens. At that point, Punk was working for AEW. There is no indication that Austin wants to wrestle again.

CM Punk Victorious In Raw’s Netflix Premiere

After missing about half of 2024 due to a torn triceps injury, CM Punk is starting 2025 the right way because he picked up a huge win over Seth Rollins on WWE Monday Night Raw’s Netflix premiere from Los Angeles.

What’s next for CM Punk could be an appearance in the 2025 Royal Rumble. John Cena has announced that he will be in it and Roman Reigns will be in the Rumble match too, so Punk’s participation would add even more star power to one of the biggest WWE matches of the year.
