CM Punk Addresses If AJ Lee Should Return To WWE

AJ Lee CM Punk

CM Punk would love to see his wife AJ Lee return to WWE television.

The former three-time WWE Divas Champion has not competed in WWE since announcing her retirement in April 2015. The news was unexpected at the time, with Lee having competed at WrestleMania 31 just days earlier, teaming with Paige to defeat the Bella Twins.

The New Jersey-born 37 year-old would later explain that spinal issues were behind her decision to hang up the boots. She would swiftly find success outside of the ring, however, reaching the New York Times Best Seller list with her critically acclaimed autobiography ‘Crazy Is My Superpower: How I Triumphed by Breaking Bones, Breaking Hearts, and Breaking the Rules’.

Speculation about a return has been rife after the WWE return of her husband, CM Punk, in November 2023.

Punk addressed the rumours during a recent interview with Ringside Collectibles at the San Diego Comic-Con, insisting that he would welcome a return before affirming that the decision ultimately needed to be made by AJ Lee alone:

“I’m the wrong guy to ask those questions. I know there’s a lot out there of that, but I certainly am not pushing her to do anything. I think she knows that there’s options. I think she sees how happy I am and how things are different.

But if the right situation presented itself, it would have to be a discussion between her and certain people. I don’t necessarily want to be in the middle of that just because it could get kind of weird. Selfishly, yes, I would love to make out with my wife on television again.”

CM Punk Praises WWE Locker Room Environment

One potential reason for an AJ Lee return could be the current locker room environment within WWE, which has been met with strong praise by WWE Superstars in recent months.

CM Punk has been amongst those to highlight the positivity and creative freedom currently being afforded backstage and recently declared that he would never have left WWE had there been a similar atmosphere a decade ago.
