CM Punk Offered Advice To WWE Stars On Dealing With Bullying Online
CM Punk has tried to battle the impact of toxic social media.
As social media has grown, people in the public eye, including WWE Superstars, have had to deal with increasing levels of abuse. When it comes to the company’s female stars, this criticism and abuse often takes a very personal form.
During her latest appearance on Busted Open Radio, Natalya recalled Punk trying to advise members of the women’s locker room on dealing with social media trolls. Punk reminded those involved that they could walk away, as social media isn’t a “real place.”
“Some of the girls were talking backstage about bullying on social media and (CM) Punk was like, ‘Turn it off. It’s not a real place.’ He was one of the first people that said that to me, and I was like, oh my gosh, he’s right. If it’s a bad nightmare, just wake up from the dream, or wake up from the nightmare. Just wake up. You don’t have to sit in it and stay in it.”
Matt Riddle Calls Out CM Punk
The comments came after Matt Riddle called CM Punk a “creep” while challenging him to “step up” and fight him. During the rant, Riddle doubled down and said Punk was a “b*tch” for “lingering around the NXT locker room.”
The former WWE star went on to question Punk’s mentorship of younger female stars such as Cora Jade.
Meanwhile, it’s been reported that Punk’s wife, AJ Lee, could make her WWE return on the September 5 edition of SmackDown. It’s widely believed that Lee will get back in the ring at Wrestlepalooza for her first match in a decade. At the event, she’s expected to team with Punk to face Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch.
SmackDown will also reportedly see the return of Brock Lesnar, and John Cena’s final ever appearance on the blue brand.
