CM Punk Admits Match With Top WWE Star Wasn’t Enjoyable
CM Punk has reflected on a painful night at the office.
At SummerSlam, CM Punk captured his first WWE World Championship since 2013 after getting the better of Gunther in a physically and emotionally bruising battle.
However, his joy was short-lived as Seth Rollins quickly arrived on the scene to cash in his Money In The Bank contract, despite spending several weeks claiming he was dealing with a serious knee injury. Rollins took advantage of the confusion and beat Punk to leave the summer spectacular with the gold.
During an appearance on First Take, Punk looked back at his emotional win and crushing defeat at SummerSlam. With regard to his match with Gunther, Punk said it was a matter of survival rather than winning.
“I got the absolute dog crap beat out of me by Gunther. Not an enjoyable experience. You wind up not beating him, but surviving Gunther, and now I’m the champion for the first time in 12 years, and I think I’ve made it back to the top of the mountain, and here comes old tiny Tim limping out on his crutches. Turns out, it was all phony; he even lied to his daughter. That’s the kind of man I’m dealing with.”
CM Punk Out For Revenge
Off the back of that stunning moment at SummerSlam, CM Punk has a chance to get revenge at Clash In Paris on August 31. At the event, Punk will challenge Rollins for the World Heavyweight Championship as part of a Fatal-Four-Way Match alongside Jey Uso and LA Knight.
Clash In Paris will be the last WWE Premium Live Event to be broadcast on Peacock. Starting with Wrestlepalooza on September 20, PLEs will be broadcast on ESPN as part of a monster multi-year deal worth $1.6 billion.
CM Punk is among those being advertised for the event in Indianapolis, although there’s no word on who he’ll be wrestling.
