How Christian Cage Helped One AEW Star Improve
Christian Cage has been providing fatherly advice to help an AEW star improve.
Nick Wayne has spent much of his time in AEW as part of Christian Cage’s Patriarchy faction, with Cage acting as something of a twisted father figure for the young star. In front of the cameras, Cage sees Wanye as a means to getting what he wants in AEW, but behind the scenes, Wayne says he has been helping him improve his skills.
During an appearance on the Battleground Podcast, Wayne opened up on how important it was to have Christian – and Sting before his retirement – providing him with advice over the last year.
“Getting to be under the learning tree of guys like Christian and, once at a time, Sting. It’s just unreal the fact that I’m so young and have a guy like that at arm’s reach of distance that I can just reach out to whenever and get critique.
“I was once asking Sting, and now asking Christian ‘Please watch my matches and just tear me apart with critiques because I wanna get better.’ It’s great to hear what they have to say, they’re some of the best to do it. Everywhere they’ve gone they’ve succeeded in their career, and I want to do the same thing.”
Wayne says Cage has been particularly helpful in improving his promo ability, something he saw as a weak point when he joined AEW.
“I’ve always thought my promos were my weak point … But having Christian who is like the best at promos, you couldn’t ask for a better teacher. He helps me, I’m feeling so much more confident now talking and cutting promos and whatnot.”
Why Did Christian Cage Get Big Win At AEW All In?
While The Patriarchy lost the World Trios Titles, Christian Cage emerged from AEW All In 2024 with a huge victory. Cage was a surprise entrance in the Casino Gauntlet match and, with a little help from Killswitch, pulled off the victory to earn a future shot at Bryan Danielson’s AEW World Championship.
While many were shocked by the move, it has been reported that it came about as Cage was meant to win an earlier title shot, but was passed over for Will Ospreay.
