Chris Jericho Explains Why Tony Khan Pulls AEW Stars Off TV

Chris Jericho says there’s a simple explanation why some AEW stars aren’t seen every week.

AEW boasts a massive roster; as of this writing, the company has 119 male wrestlers signed, 34 female wrestlers signed, and ten managers that make TV appearances. With a roster this big, it’s unrealistic to expect to see everyone ever week.

However, according to Chris Jericho, there’s more that goes into the decision on who appears on AEW programming and who doesn’t than some might think.

In an interview for WTF with Marc Maron (via Fightful), Chris Jericho confirmed something that MJF had once said in passing in one of his promos: that Tony Khan is a big statistician/”numbers guy” and so how a wrestler impacts minute-by-minute or segment-by-segment viewership changes will in turn determine whether or not that wrestler is seen in the same slot again.

“If you don’t draw…my boss, Tony Khan is a numbers fanatic. If you are put in that position and the ratings go down, you won’t be put in that position anymore. That’s part of it. You have to connect and people have to watch you on screen.

If not, you won’t be on screen in that position, or maybe you won’t be on the main show, you’ll be on the next show. There are levels to that too.”
